Artist Biography
A life-long artist, Steve was surrounded by art from a young age. His mother Verna is also an artist and retired art teacher. His father Arnold is a retired game warden and decoy carver while brother Andy focuses on bird carving.
Self-employed since 1985, Steve has invented and sold tools and other devices to the wood carving and high performance automotive communities.
He also spent 10 years working with mom Verna as a professional wedding cake artist. After retiring from cake in 2018, Steve finally had the free time to get back to his paints and brushes and get to work.
He has worked with many mediums -including acrylic, watercolor, and pencil. He has focused on watercolor exclusively since 2019.
Steve also spent many years as an avid "hot-rodder" and classic car enthusiast. Magic happened when cars and watercolor met! Capturing a car's color and chrome in watercolor makes for the dramatic images Steve is now known for.
In 2022 Steve was commissioned by "Shelby's Trio" restaurant in Clarksville, TN to paint 4 Shelby Mustang classic cars for the "Joe's Garage" lower level of this amazing new eatery. The 1970 GT500 piece is a whopping 4x6 FEET in size.
In 2023 he began a series of dramatic floral pieces to add variety to his portfolio. With the black backgrounds the flowers jump right off of the paper and need to be seen to be believed.
In July 2023 Steve will have a one man show at the Clarksville, TN DAC Artists Co-Op Gallery. The show will feature over 50 of his pieces, many of which have not been seen before.
Most of his work is done with Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith professional watercolor tube paints on 140# Arches paper. Steve also does all of his own matting and framing.
Steve is a juried member of the Clarksville D.A.C. (Downtown Artists Co-Op) as well as a member of the Hopkinsville Artist's Guild.
